Simulation Modeling Lead

Position Description

Unify Project is now activity recruiting a Simulation Modeling Lead to contribute to the design and implementation of Unify’s simulation modeling components.  Reporting to the CTO, this is a key role in the organization, responsible for model design, building, testing, validation, and implementation; engineering solutions that are compatible with other components of the OS, thought leadership to drive organizational strategy.  We are seeking candidates who possess the intellectual and technical savvy to unravel complex systems and the creativity to know how to identify paths that illuminate solutions.

  • Working with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for building models based on available data to drive insights

  • Lead strategy on the use of state-of-the-art methods and virtual analysis tools, applying innovative data modeling and analysis techniques within the Unify OS

  • Conduct advanced virtual design and testing

  • Create technical documents and presentations

  • Communicate to UP leadership and research team through presentations and high-level reports

  • Develop and execute research project plans to achieve desired milestones and outcomes

  • Collaborate with cross-functional internal and external teams

By Day 100

  • Design and recommend an implementation plan for a systems architecture to deploy within the Unify OS, including necessary tools and budget.

  • Establish top three priority projects for the upcoming year to establish 3-5 initial models, including plan, resources required, deliverables, and dates.

  • Establish a quarterly internal education plan on system modeling best practices and insights for UP stakeholders

    By Day 200

  • Execute and validate the initial build of the system modeling tool and implementation plan to produce a minimum viable product, including supporting documentation and methodology templates.

  • Complete at least two initial simulation projects that demonstrate viability of the chosen system design.

  • Publish a staffing and resource plan to include the next fiscal year.  

  • Execute the quarterly internal education plan for UP stakeholder.  

    By Day 365

  • Refine the initial build of the system modeling tool to achieve maximum results based on analysis of the initial simulation projects.

  • Complete 3-5 simulation projects.

  • Publish 2-3 white papers that demonstrate viability of chosen models.

Required Skills
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience with system modeling or systems dynamics, ideally experienced with socioeconomic systems.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Simulation Modeling, System Dynamics, Computer Science, or related area; PhD or Master’s Degree preferred.  

  • Familiarity with discrete, system dynamics and agent-based techniques, with 2+ years of experience preferred.  

  • Knowledge and experience with diverse modeling techniques, using off-the-shelf system dynamics / modeling software (ex. Powersim, AnyLogic, ISee, Ventity, Arena, Promodel, Stella, Vensim, or similar programs); the ability to customize available tools or independently develop a simulation engine is preferred.  

  • Demonstrable experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using Periscope, Tableau, QuickSight, D3, ggplot, etc.

  • Stellar project visioning, management, and execution skills backed by accountable leadership.

Salary Range

Commensurate with experience.
