Background of Organization

The Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) was initiated by the German Federal Government in 2009 as a fundamental part of the German high tech-strategy for climate protection. Since June 2014, GERICS has been a scientific organizational entity of Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht – Zentrum für Material- und Küstenforschung GmbH. 

We are located in the historic "Chilehaus" in Hamburg and employ an interdisciplinary team of natural and social scientists. The total staff number is currently 43. The director of GERICS is meteorologist and climate scientist Prof. Dr. Daniela Jacob.

Position Title

Researcher

Position Description

GERICS is looking for a Researcher (m/f) to support the scientific cooperation with the University of Hamburg research group on Agricultural Economics and Resource Management within the research unit Sustainability and Global Change. The „Integrative Modelling Lab“ will work on the analysis of impacts of global change at the local and regional scale through the creation of integrative models. These models will include knowledge from different sources to support science-based decision making under the frame of „action-able science“. The position is limited to three years.The place of employment is Hamburg.

Position Tasks

  • the management of the project in close collaboration with the principal investigators
  • scientific work within the project following the needs of the project's document of action
  • collaboration with other GERICS’ departments
  • writing of scientific publications
  • support the visibility of the project
  • support of the team work on the coupling of systems through system modeling approaches
  • support of the organisation of workshops and participatory processes for the team

 

Qualifications

 
  • have a PhD preferably in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Ecological Economics or similar background
  • have experience in the use of System Dynamic Modelling
  • have experience in modelling and programming
  • have experience in participatory processes and stakeholder dialogues
  • have scientific publication in the intersection of science and use of science
  • be highly motivated, proactive, self-reliant, assertive, with an excellent time-management
  • be able to work interdisciplinary connecting the work of different disciplines
  • be proficient in English and German

Additional Details

Please be aware that System Dynamics modelling and German knowledge are a must.
